Modeled after the Tony Awards, the Bobby G Awards are a statewide high school musical theatre program that recognizes Colorado students and educators in the areas of performance, design, direction, choreography and technical production. The awards ceremony served as an opportunity for the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) to honor Colorado high school musical theatre programs and for students to celebrate and support each other.

Students Learning Tools of the Trades at Douglas County High School

Frontier Valley Students Enjoy Career Day with Visits from Community Members

Rock Canyon High School Hosts Emergency Training Scenario

They found themselves in the midst of a major emergency when they left the classrooms at Rock Canyon High School behind for a real-life training exercise. Students from EMT, Fire and Rescue, and Criminal Justice classes responded, triaged, and cared for victims of a multi-car incident. Alongside the students, their teachers and representatives from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office assisted and provided feedback to the young first responders.

Daniel C. Oakes High School Partners with the Backpack Society

ThunderRidge High School’s Welding Shop is School’s Newest Career Technical Education Program

At the welding shop at ThunderRidge High School (TRHS), students measure, cut, and of course, weld. This is where the sparks fly! Currently, five offerings of Welding I and Welding 2 classes are available. Next school year, a Welding 3 class will be offered, and the following year, Welding 4. The goal is that students who complete Welding 4 will earn their certification, giving them immediate access to the workforce following graduation.

Cresthill Middle School Debuts Cycle Studio

Cresthill Middle School (CMS) is the first and only DCSD school with a cycle studio. The school’s Health and Wellness department came up with the idea three years ago, taking a dream to fruition. “Getting kids active was the goal,” said Cresthill Athletic Director Bradley Wiidakas. “Cycling is an integral part of the Colorado experience, whether it’s road cycling or world-class mountain biking. Plus, cycling is a powerful low-impact exercise that delivers excellent benefits.”

DCSD High Schools Have Esports, the Newest and Officially Sanctioned Activity Under CHSAA

Esports is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world and one of the fastest-growing activities in DCSD. Esports are organized competitive video gaming, which involves strategy, strong hand-eye coordination, and teamwork. Teams compete against each other in tournaments. Consoles such as the Nintendo Switch make up most of the devices. Other events require personal computers that are capable of running the software. Internet speed and connection are important to the success of the program. Current popular and CHSAA-sanctioned games include Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, League of Legends, Rocket League, Mario Kart, Splatoon, Hearthstone, Madden 23, and NBA 2k3.

NOTICE OF DESTRUCTION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION RECORDS

Special Education records which have been collected by Douglas County School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for the period of five (5) years after special education services have ended for the student. Special education services end when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, or completes his/her educational program at age 21, or moves from the district. This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of Douglas County School District's intent to destroy the special education records of students who exited special education services as of June 30, 2016. These records will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student notifies the school district otherwise. After five years, the records are no longer useful to the district, but may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for social security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc. The parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student may request a copy of the records by requesting the records at this link ( Douglas County School District Transcripts and Records Requests ).
