Learning Commons
A Space to Read, Explore and Create
The Northeast Elementary Learning Commons is more than a traditional library. It is a welcoming, flexible space where students can read, research, collaborate, create and explore new ideas.
Students are encouraged to use the Learning Commons in a variety of ways, whether they are discovering a new favorite book, researching a topic, working with classmates, using technology or simply finding a comfortable place to read.
Learning Through Exploration
The Learning Commons supports learning across our school by giving students opportunities to:
- Explore books and develop a love of reading
- Research topics and build information literacy skills
- Collaborate and learn with classmates
- Use technology as a tool for learning and discovery
- Create, problem-solve and pursue their curiosity
Our goal is to provide a space where students feel comfortable asking questions, exchanging ideas and taking an active role in their learning.
A Shared Community Space
The Learning Commons is designed to be an active, collaborative environment. While students are expected to respect the space, its materials and one another, learning doesn't always happen in silence! Students and staff are encouraged to browse, read, work independently or with a small group, and check out books and other resources. We are proud to offer a Learning Commons that supports curiosity, connection and a lifelong love of learning.
