Learning Commons

Academics - Learning Commons

World Class libraries are shifting their focus to a learning commons as a nationwide model. The learning commons facilitates the production, sharing, organizing, finding, and use of information in a collaborative environment that enhances 21st century learning.

With this in mind, Mountain View and Northeast are changing their perception that the library is just a place to store and check-out books. Students are encouraged to use the space to collaborate with other students, research, enhance creativity and use technology that will be integrated with the learning environment. Although expectations still exist for students to respect the space, the treatment of all materials checked-out, and one another, it is no longer a space where “silence” at all times is the case. We welcome our school community to utilize this collaborative space. Students, staff and parents are encouraged to use our learning commons to browse, sit and read, work with a small group or check out books.
